Sophie Vickers (Tennis)
After a number of trials, Sophie was recently selected in the Victorian Secondary Schools team for the third consecutive year. She will compete in Wollongong in late May/ early June in the Australian Secondary Schools Championships (Pizzey Cup).

Charlotte McShane (Triathlete)
Charlotte's
first Australian season as an ITU Draft Legal athlete is over. Since making the change to Draft Legal racing at the end of last year, she has learnt a lot. She said that this is a totally different game, and probably the most important lesson she has learnt is that every second counts. Unfortunately it took a few personal experiences for her to realise this! She was lucky to race a few short enduro style triathlons in February in Queensland as part of the Triathlon Australia Elite Series – these were very valuable as she was able to practise all the little things that don’t matter so much in the long course – such as transitions and tactics. She raced in the Oceania Triathlon Championships in NZ in March and made a few silly mistakes there which were very frustrating, however hopefully she will learn from them! She was also  lucky to get her first World Cup start in Mooloolaba where she had a terrible race due to tactical errors rather than fitness. She is very grateful to have the opportunity to race and with more experience she believes the closer to perfection she is. She is now in Wollongong, and is doing a lot of aerobic and strength development across cycle/run, which basically means lots of kilometres! She leaves for Europe in May and will be doing a lot of races whilst she is over there and she cannot wait to put everything she has learnt into action. She will mostly be based in France and Spain and she is very excited to get away from the Australian winter!!
You can track her performance in races on www.charlottemcshane.com.

Olivia Ferretti (Tae Kwon Do)
Australia
took 26 competitors from all over the country to the US Open Tae Kwon Do championships. There were 2000 competitors from over 40 countries competing. Amongst the 26 Australians competing at the tournament there were present and future Olympic and Commonwealth games athletes. The team had Olympic coaches and an Olympic athlete on the team and she trained twice a day, working on her kicks and moves, and had regular meetings on controlling her diet before her fights. For her fight she was a bit unlucky not to get a warm up and almost having to fight without a coach. She fought well and learned a lot of new strategies and moves that are very useful. She lost her fight and her competitor went on the medal so it was a great experience to fight someone with so much talent and experience. All the unfortunate problems at the competition has helped and built her as a better fighter for next time. The Head Coach said that the actual fight is only 1% of the whole experience and she got to use electronic scoring systems not available in Australia and which will be used at the next Olympics. She was also able to watch some of the best fighters from all over the world.
18th March 2010
Sophie Vickers (Tennis)
Sophie recently competed in an Australian Money Tournament in Melbourne where she reached the final losing to a girl from Perth. Along the way she beat a number of higher ranked players including the number 1 seed. She has recently competed in the Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club Championships where she won the under 21 singles championship for the second consecutive year and also came runner-up in the Open Women’s Singles Championship

Anna Williams (Volleyball)
After her last email about being selected on the Victorian side, she has now been named in the Blue team of 10 ( the top team). In this team she is the only girl who is bottom age and the only girl from the country.  She has been selected upon her ability to pass volleyballs in back court and will play specified position 'libero' on the team.  This will provide her with a maximum amount of court time and will be an amazing experience for her given that her coach is the Australian Youth Team Assistant Coach and nearly all of her team mates have represented Australia in the sport.  She is extremely proud of this achievement and aims to get the most out of it.

16th February 2010
Mikayla Blackshaw (Hockey)
Has just competed her last training session with the Victorian under 15s development squad for 2009. She is currently training with the south-eastern division of VicStix with hockey Victoria. She trains at Berwick and will compete against other Victorian zones in an Interzone  competition weekend at the State Netball Hockey Centre  20th-21st March 2010.
Summer Hockey has also started at her local club, Nagle Hockey Club. She plays on Wednesday nights and says that it is a lot of fun and good for her fitness.

15th February 2010
Lily Collins (Swimming)
Lily swam really well at the Vic Sprint Championships at MSAC winning a Gold medal in the 14yr Girls 50m Breaststroke race in a time of 34.46.  It is her first Gold State Medal.  It was also a Gippsland Swimming Inc record (Girls 14 yrs Out of Gippsland) from 1999 which was previously held by Bree Trewin who was coincidently a former Bairnsdale Swim Club swimmer. Lily's time in the 50m Breast puts her third in current Australian 14 girls rankings.  Unfortunately at Age Nationals they don't swim 50m Breaststroke races but swimming such a good time should certainly give Lily confidence in her races at Nationals in April.

7th February 2010
Corporate Triathlon (Paynesville)
The Foundation entered a young team of three sponsored athletes lead by Stephen McShane (Triathlete), Katrina East (Cycling) and Anna Williams (Volleyball). They came a creditable 14th in a field of 99. Their overall finishing time was 1 hour 33.08 minutes,  only 14.78 minutes behind the winning team.
